Qualifications

Neels holds degrees in B.com and LLB as well as a diploma in solvency law and practice from the University of Pretoria. He is an admitted attorney and conveyancer with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa.

Work experience

He started his career in a regulatory environment at the erstwhile Exchange Control Department of the SARB. Neels was actively involved in investigations of contraventions of the Exchange Control Regulations and the prosecution of offenders.

He was admitted as an attorney whilst working for Routledge Modise Attorneys where he became a director in 2004.

He has since acted for major banks in litigious matters and headed up high profile and sensitive investigations as well as prosecutions on behalf of the National Prosecuting Authority. 

Neels has experience in Prevention of Organised Crime; Tax Administration; acted as inspector and as manager or repayment administrator under the provisions of the Banks Act; acted for the Registrar of Banks in litigious matters and in an advisory capacity; represented the Registrar of Banks in appeal proceedings in terms of Section 45D of the FIC Act and in review proceedings under the Banks Act; He has acted for a number of listed companies in litigious matters.  Of late he has been successful with obtaining refunds due to clients by the South African Revenue Service.

Neels is a registered insolvency practitioner and a member of SARIPA.
